A frozen air conditioner is one of those problems that looks dramatic but is actually pretty common. When your system ices up like this, it's almost always a sign that something is restricting airflow - a dirty filter, a blocked return, low refrigerant, or a combination of issues. The unit can't breathe, the coil gets too cold, and before long you've got a block of ice where refrigerant lines should be.

Here's the thing though - you can't just chip the ice off and call it fixed. The unit has to thaw completely before any meaningful diagnosis or repair can happen. Rushing that step leads to missed problems and repeat service calls. We take the time to let the system fully thaw so we're actually working on a system we can accurately evaluate.

Once the ice cleared, we were able to get in there and address the root cause. That's the only way to make sure the repair actually holds. A frozen coil is a symptom - not the problem itself. Treating the symptom without finding the underlying cause just means you'll be dealing with the same issue all over again a few weeks later.

If your A/C is running but not cooling, or if you've noticed ice forming anywhere on the unit or the lines, don't ignore it. Systems that stay in that state long enough can end up with compressor damage - and that's a much more expensive fix than catching it early.
